Desktop Report Writer: Template Maintenance Summary

Summaries automatically collect and summarize info about deficient inspection items.

Add a Summary

  1. Select the template

  2. On the left side of the screen, click the Summary section bar

  3. In the center window, click the Edit Summaries tab at the top

  4. In the row of icons near the top of the screen, click Add T

  5. Give your summary a name, abbreviation, and color. Icons are optional and are covered below.

  6. Click OK, then click File > Save Template or Save T to save your changes

Edit a Summary

  1. Select the template

  2. On the left side of the screen, click the Summary section bar

  3. In the center window, click the Edit Summaries tab at the top

  4. Beneath the Edit Summaries button, click the tab for the summary you would like to edit.

  5. In the row of icons near the top of the screen, click Edit T

  6. Make changes to Summary Name, Summary Abbreviation, Color for Comments, or Icon Used

  7. Click OK, then click File > Save Template or Save T to save your changes

Change the Color of Summary Comments

  1. Select the template

  2. On the left side of the screen, click the Summary section bar

  3. In the center window, click the Edit Summaries tab at the top

  4. Beneath the Edit Summaries button, click the tab for the summary you would like to edit.

  5. In the row of icons near the top of the screen, click Edit T

  6. In the middle of the Edit Summary Window, click the Pick Color button to choose the color. You can choose More Colors for more control over the color choices.

  7. To make the text of comments going to a specific summary a specific color, check the box labeled Use Color For Comments That Are In This Summary

    Match the Summary

    Making comments that go to a summary match the color of that summary is a great way to color-code your report. For example, if your plumbing summary is blue, you could make any comments about plumbing deficiencies also blue by checking this box.

  8. Click OK, then click File > Save Template or Save T to save your changes

Add or Edit an Icon for Summary Comments

  1. Select the template

  2. On the left side of the screen, click the Summary section bar

  3. In the center window, click the Edit Summaries tab at the top

  4. Beneath the Edit Summaries button, click the tab for the summary you would like to edit.

  5. In the row of icons near the top of the screen, click Edit T

  6. In the middle of the Edit Summary Window, click the grey box

  7. The file explorer will open. Choose an icon and click Open. (You can make your own icons - read below.)

  8. To make the icon appear beside comments that are going to the summary, check the box labeled Use Icon For Comments That Are In This Summary

  9. Click OK, then click File > Save Template or Save T to save your changes

Resize an Image to Use as an Icon

  1. Find the image you like and save it in the following location: Documents/HomeGauge/html5

  2. Open your image in an editing program. For simplicity, we suggest Microsoft Paint

  3. Click Resize

  4. Click Pixels and change the value for Horizontal to 24

  5. Save the file as a .gif file and exit Paint. Now, the image will be available for use as a summary icon.

Delete a Summary

  1. Select the template you would like to add the summary and on the left side of the screen, click the Summary section bar

  2. In the center window, click the Edit Summaries tab at the top

  3. Beneath the Edit Summaries button, click the tab for the summary you would like to delete

  4. In the row of icons near the top of the screen, click Delete T

  5. After making your changes, click File > Save Template or Save T to save your changes
