HomeGauge Release Notes Desktop5.5.36.xWhat's New
We've made several improvements to enhance your HomeGauge experience:
Data Folder Location Update
We've updated how HomeGauge handles data folder location to improve stability and prevent issues with cloud sync services like OneDrive.
Comment Filter Display Update
A new setting under Comment Options called Collapse to Last Category in Filter has been added. This new setting gives you control over how category names appear in comment filters. Some users prefer the streamlined view showing only the final category name, while others find the complete hierarchy path more informative. Now you can choose the display style that works best for your workflow.
Find First Unanswered Stability Fix
Fixed a crash that could occur when using the Find First Unanswered feature (Ctrl+F) while editing comments in inspection items.
PDF Attachment Fix
This resolves a frustrating issue when trying to add PDF attachments to auto-comments. The attachment count would remain at 0. This fix ensures your PDF attachments work reliably throughout your workflow.
Key Changes
New Data Folder Location
New installations: The data folder will now be stored in the AppData directory by default
Existing installations: Your data folder remains in its current Documents location
Easy Data Folder Access
New menu option: File > Open Data Folder Location
This opens Windows File Explorer directly to your data folder, regardless of where it's located
No more hunting for your data files
What This Means for You
If You're Updating HomeGauge
Your data stays put: All existing data remains in your current Documents location
New convenience: Use the new File menu option to access your data folder quickly
No action required: Everything continues to work as before
If You're Installing for the First Time
Improved stability: Data folder will be in AppData (hidden by Windows by default)
Easy access: Use File > Open Data Folder Location to navigate to your data folder quickly
Better performance: Reduced conflicts with OneDrive and other cloud sync services
Why This Change?
Storing new installations in AppData (which cloud services typically exclude from syncing) eliminates compatibility issues while maintaining easy access through the built-in File menu option.
