Multi-Inspector: Setting up a New Employee's Desktop Report Writer Software

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of setting up Desktop Report Writer for your new inspector.

Install and Activate Desktop Report Writer

Get Desktop Report Writer on your new employee's computer by following the instructions in this article: Desktop Report Writer: Download, Install, and Activate


Add Username and Password

Add your new inspector's username and password to the desktop software to make scheduling appointments and uploading reports easier.

  1. Click HG Services > Enter Inspector HG Username

  2. Enter the new inspector's Username and Password, check the Always Remember box, and click ok (You can add this information at any point).


Send Company Settings to the New Inspector

Prepare Backup

The owner, manager, or lead inspector will typically use their HG User Settings backup. Whoever has the master template, company logo, and print settings should be backing up settings. Learn how to Backup HG User Settings in this article Desktop Report Writer: Backup HG User Settings.

Restore Settings

Once the settings have been backed up, it is time to Restore Other HG User Settings on the new inspectors Desktop software. To download the settings of another user:

  1. Open HomeGauge and sign into the software with your credentials first. HG Services (top menu) > Enter Inspector HG Username...

  2. Click HG Services > Restore Other User Settings.

  3. When prompted, Click Yes to close the open report.

  4. Click Restore From Other Cloud.

  5. Enter the User Name and Password of the user whose HG settings you are downloading. Click OK.

  6. When the notice that the download was successful appears, click OK.

  7. You will now have the settings of the other user. This includes:

    • Templates

    • Logos

    • Document Print Settings

    • Custom Report Documents (such as covers, e.g.)

    • Invoice Items
