With the HomeGauge Web Writer, you can create multiple inspection templates for different types of inspections.
We think you should use the Library feature before creating a template. This feature allows you to make changes to Comments, Descriptions, and Disclaimers that will be reflected in all templates. To learn more, visit this article at How do I Make Changes to the Global Library in the Web Writer?
To get started, navigate to the Web Writer by clicking the link from your Inspector Dashboard or follow this link: Web Writer (link opens in a new tab.)
Creating a new inspection template
- On the left-hand side of the Web Writer landing page, click on Templates
- A list of available inspection templates will be displayed, including the one you started with. Click on Add Inspection Template.
- You will be asked to enter a name and have two options for how to start your new template:
- Create from company defaults creates a new template based on the default template your account started with, including any changes made to Comments, Descriptions, and Disclaimers in your Library.
- Copy existing template lets you pick an existing inspection template to use as the starting point for the new template.
- Once you've chosen an option, click Add to see the new template in your list of available inspection templates.
Editing your new inspection template
Click the template's name in the Templates view to edit your new template. Changes are saved as you make them.
Setting a default template
Once you have more than one template, you should decide which one to use by default for your inspections. When creating a new inspection, you'll always have the option of switching which template to use. Just so you know, you cannot change the template once an inspection has been created.
Your default template is indicated by "(default)" being added to its name. To change it, click the three vertical dot menu to the right of the template you'd like to set as default and click Set As Default.
When prompted, click Set As Default to confirm the action or Cancel if you've changed your mind.
Choosing a template when creating an inspection
Now that you have more than one inspection template, you can choose between them when creating a new inspection.
- From the Inspections view, click Add Inspection.
- After adding the usual information, you'll see a dropdown titled Report Template. It will default to your default template, but you can click it to choose a different template.

Inspections can also be created by appointment. To learn more, please visit this article How do I Sync My Appointment Data to a Web Writer Report.
