Note: These instructions are for Android devices. There are only two resolution settings on Apple mobile devices. The default size on iOS is 640x480. To change the default size, go to Menu > More > General > 'Use Larger Photo Size.' This Apple option will adjust your size to the default camera size on your device, effectively doubling the size of your photos.
When you create a report on the HG Companion, you need to lower the photo and video resolution to prevent going over the cloud transfer limit of 600MB.
Go into the camera settings on your device and set the following:
- Photo resolution should be around 1 megapixel or around 1280x720.
- The resolution must be higher than 640x480 to work with HomeGauge. Resolutions of 640x480 or lower won't trigger our automated photo resizing and will result in problems.
- Videos should be set on the lowest option for your device.
Lower your Settings
Using a higher resolution camera setting has little to no benefit, as videos and photos are resized in the software before the final report upload. We recommend lowering your settings to speed up your transfers and downloads and stay below the size limits.
File Too Big to Transfer
If you used higher resolution settings and now have a report that is too large to transfer and have no photos or videos you can remove, you can always manually transfer it. Just so you know, there is no way to increase the 600MB transfer limit, so in this instance, manually transferring will be your best option. How do I Transfer a Report from the Android Companion? When will you be able to edit photo's on your phone like other home inspection software companies? We have been with homegauge for 15 years. We need the software to be more user friendly so our employees don't have to edit reports when they get home. Please advise.
Since my last visits, I began using the UleFone Armor 9 (4G phone). Had no problems with photos, using the default HG camera. I just upgraded to the UleFone Armor 11T (5G phone) and now have problems with the HG camera: Photos taken with the HG Default Camera now do not automatically "level" when taken in the horizontal view. They come out in the report as needing rotated 90 degrees to the left. I use the horizontal view most of the time, as for both wide area interior and exterior shots I can get a lot more into the photo. But, like I said, every one of them has to be turned 90 degrees left, manually, in the report. Changing the Companion photo option to use the phones camera solves this problem... except now the phone's name is inserted into every photo by default. How do I get the HG Ap camera to automatically "level" the photos like my phone's camera does? For examples, see newest "Test" report in the cloud in my account.
Hi David, this feature is in planning stages for the next iteration of HomeGauge, but I am going to turn your comment into a ticket to track it so that we can update you with any progress. Thank you for your feedback!
I would also like to know how to toggle between camera apps in HGC
The advice here is just the opposite of what I was given from Help Desk staff only a few days ago. They recommended I down-load either Open Camera (or one other app) and set the default photo size to 640x480, which I did. BUT, now I see above that was not the correct thing to do?
ISSUE: I did as directed, found reports uploading VERY quickly (good), but the videos taken inside the Companion app during the inspection do not upload. Can't find a way to upload the videos which are still on my Pixel 3 XL in the Open Camera APP.
Now, how do i get Open Camera out of the default for Home Gauge Companion?
Hi Daniel Evans and Robert Woodman,
Sorry for the delay in following up. Once you've selected a camera app as default, HomeGauge may not prompt you again to switch apps, but this can still be accomplished with the following steps:
These steps may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer of your device. If these steps don't work, let us know which device you have or search the internet for "[your device type] clear defaults" for the appropriate steps.
