Texas inspectors can create a TREC-compliant report using the Texas print format in Web Report Writer. You can customize your templates to match your inspection style, and Web Writer will handle the formatting behind the scenes.
How It Works
Web Report Writer automatically maps its Systems, Items, and Descriptions to the correct sections of the TREC REI 7-6 format.
📎 The attached PDF shows which Web Writer Items correspond to TREC sections. Some TREC sections include multiple Web Writer Items.
Example:
TREC Section: Cooling Equipment
Includes:AC-Condenser
,AC-Evaporator Coil
,Air Conditioner
,Air Handler
,Packaged HVAC
,Swamp Cooler
,Thermostat
, andWindow Air Conditioner
.
TREC Compliance Warning
Renaming Items too far from their original Item Type can break TREC report formatting and compliance.
When editing templates for Texas inspections, we strongly recommend keeping item names close to their original Web Writer Item Types to ensure your final report remains TREC-compliant.

Workaround for Missing Outbuilding
We are currently unable to map Outbuildings in the same way we are mapping other items due to the collective nature of the section's items. As we work on this, we are offering this solution as a work around:
- Currently, “Outbuildings” can’t be mapped like other Items due to how this TREC section works. Here’s a workaround:
- Go to the General System in your template.
- Add a new Item:
- Type: Other General
- Name: Outbuilding (or similar)
- Add a status and comment to this Item.
This will display under Optional Systems in the TREC report, labeled as “Other.”
