What's new?
Beta version 5.5.0.7 of the HomeGauge Companion for Android is now available. This is an open beta test.
Release notes
- New export functionality will send the entire Data Folder to the device folder Downloads/Companion. The user is prompted if they would like to overwrite a previously exported data folder if one exists. If yes, then the current export overwrites the previous export. If not, an additional copy of the companion folder is exported to the downloads folder.
- New option to send companion photos to the device gallery. More > Photo Options can “Send a copy of photos taken in-app to the device gallery.”
- Fixed trying to set the start time of a report between 12:00 pm and 12:59 pm

How do I Transfer Files from the Android Companion?
Cloud Transfer
Using the HG Cloud (part of the Online Services), you can quickly transfer reports between computers and devices without manually copying files.

In your HG Companion, click HG Services > Send Report to Cloud. Select the report you'd like to transfer and click transfer.

On your computer or device, go to HG Services > Get Report from Cloud. Select the report and click download.

Go to Open Reports, and you will see it in the list.
Manual Transfer
We recommend using the HG Cloud for transferring reports, but if you have files that are too large or your internet isn't working correctly, use the following steps to transfer your files manually.

Tap the three-dot menu in the top right

Tap More

Tap Export Data Folder

Choose to either Overwrite any previously exported Data Folder to save space on your device or export your data folder to a New Folder in your devices Downloads folder

Connect your Android phone to your computer via USB

You may see an installation bubble in the bottom right of your screen. Wait for the computer to complete installation.

On your Android phone, pull down the notification window from the
top of your screen and tap the USB Connected or Charge Via USB. Select "Transferring Files" or similar to allow access to the files. -
On your computer, open File Explorer and navigate to This PC > (Your Device)

Click to open the Download folder

Find the Companion folder

Click to open the companion folder and then open the Reports folder

Find the report folder you are looking for. Report folders are labeled by Report ID. Right-click to Copy the individual report folder.

Right-click to Copy the individual report folder

Navigate to Documents/HomeGauge/Reports on your computer. Highlight the Reports folder and paste the report using Ctrl-V or right-click and choose Paste.

Open the software, click Open, then Refresh Database. You will now be able to open the report.

Save the report to set the pictures

Safely eject the Android device

Official comment
Problems found with beta features to be fixed before production launch:
- Trying to navigate away from Export Data Folder without selecting Create New or Overwrite will hang the app and need to be closed and restarted.
- Overwriting the exported data folder will still duplicate pictures in the Attachments folder, Settings, Contacts, and Invoice. This does not negatively impact the application but unnecessarily takes up a little extra space in the Downloads folder.
