The first of probably many posts.....introduction
Hello all. I've used HG for almost 10 years now. My business and HG have grown together. your choice of software is important....it provides the finished product that reflects on your business. Like choosing a wife, you should choose carefully.
While I love how HG provides me with a great looking report through the years I have BEGGED Homegauge for little fixes.....I actually used to provide my "Xmas Wish List" every year on the HG Facebook page. Whenever I saw HG employees at conferences I would show them little improvements they would need to do to make things better....they would all agree....but in the end NOTHING would get done. Sigh.
Homegauge is like the beautiful wife you are madly in love with...but has a LOT of irritating habits, like squeezing the toothpaste tube in the middle, not changing the toilet roll, etc.....and despite all the begging to please improve, she does not listen. Sigh.
So..every so often here I will post one of these items in the hopes that they might actually be heard. So...I'll start by saying that my company is a bit unique. 98% of all of our inspections are 11th month warranty inspections on one year old homes. We are hired by the homeowners and do a complete inspection, and turn the report into both the homeowner and the builder, who in turn, fixes all the issues we find. They are a bit more in depth than an R.E. inspection, as in addition to looking for mechanical, safety and structural issues, we are also documenting all the little cosmetic issues like cracks, screw pops, cabinet door adjustments, etc., that the builder will fix. The homeowners love us and the builders consider us their last step quality control. It is a niche. We do about 700 inspections a year.
So..when booking an inspection in the scheduler, you only have the choices of Buyer, buyer's agent, seller, sellers agent. PLEASE GIVE ME THE CHOICE OF "OWNER". I know there are others doing warranty inspections....and owner's 'peace of mind" check up inspections.....but after years of begging for this HG will not do this simple thing.
I am sure there are WAY more inspectors doing warranty inspections then "RV inspections", so there seems to be a real disconnect here.
I have many more lilies things like this.....but I'll stop here and list others every so often. The big question here is....will this new forum be the long awaited pathway to get all these little improvements...?? Time will tell. My company is married to HG, but often it seems the relationship is somewhat one sided. Here's hoping!

Hi Frank,
I do see that this has been one of our more popular requests recently, especially as we have added RV Inspectors into the mix. Our support team escalated the request and we are reviewing the different use cases to ensure we have the appropriate changes considered.
At this point, we are looking at adding an option of "Owner" to the "Customer is" drop down in New Appointments. I believe that would address the primary concern here but please let us know if that isn't the case!
Thank you,
Caitlin

Actually, in the report it does say "Owner", so report-wise we are good. I get around the "Mr. & Mrs" no longer being allowed by using like "Jack & Jill" under the first name. I was referring to when you book an inspection it only gives you 4 options...Buyer, Buyer's agent, Seller and Seller's agent. Very limited.

I agree. The owner option would be nice for Home Maintenance Inspections.

Not a bad suggestion. Actually, in the HG desktop software the term used is client. Does it really matter if they are the buyer or the owner? Probably not but they are the client. So perhaps this is a better term to use throughout the software including the appointments. Consistency will help us all

I've had the same experience with home guage basically a good product but support for minor fixes is non existent

I honestly believe whatever you come up with Caitlin will likely work, but please make everything consistent. In the calendar, in the report writing software and in the companions. Right now It is a mish mosh. So I can pick client in the iPhone HG Companion which is perfect. They may not be the owner. They may not be the seller. They may not be the Buyer. But yes they are the client. No matter whom the are they are always the client. May also have a seller. In my software, I don't see owner anywhere so it must be in that particular software. Is that correct? I'd ask that we just make it consistent.
