WDI form needs to be vastly improved
I talked to Luca yesterday about getting access to the drawing software portion of the WDI form and he very graciously set about figuring out a way to make that happen. He ended up sending me instructions on how to load up another form that has the same drawing software in it so that I can find out whether or not it would serve my needs.
It does not do so!
It is almost completely worthless, in fact! Not only is the drawing area way too small but there's no way to draw lines by the foot nor does it tell you how many squares long the line you're drawing is (i.e. presumably one square equals one foot). There's a ruler at the top and side of the window but that's worthless when drawing such a graph and even if I managed to get the graph drawn half way accurately, I'd have to go back and manually put in the length of each wall. And, I don't even know if it's possible to add a porch, patio, deck or detached garage. If there is, I have no idea how to do it. I'd literally be better off including a hand drawn graph of the foundation on a piece of graph paper.
To be fair, it might could be made to do what I want it to do - maybe - but there are no tutorials on how to use that piece of software and to figure it out on my own would be a monumental feat that I neither have the time nor the inclination to attempt, especially after having to pay a hundred bucks for the privilege. It is anything but intuitive.
Looks like I'll just have to stick with the separate piece of software that I've been using to create my WDI reports for now.
I strongly suggest that HG look into upgrading that drawing software to something that is purpose built for the sort of drawing that WDI inspections require. Perhaps partner up with Apex Sketch or some other software provider or maybe just make it so that you can integrate Apex into the WDI form (or any other form that might use such a graph).(Perhaps that can already be done???)
Baring something like that, then, at the very least, someone needs to do a tutorial on how to use and get the most out of using that drawing software.
