Release Notes 10/31/2022 - Desktop 5.5.3.0
HomeGauge Desktop 5.5.3.0 introduces a variety of fixes and improvements to the user experience.
To get this update, we suggest shutting down your current software before installing the new version from your inspector dashboard by clicking Install HG 5 from the left-hand navigation menu.
Alternatively, you can click Help > Check for Updates. You may receive an error that requires you to select Retry to move forward with the installation. If an error occurs around updating your fonts, hit Skip to continue, as we did not make any changes in that area.
Issue: Attachments under Templates > All Attachments will show that an attachment is missing if the original file path for an attachment was moved, renamed, or changed.
Solution: Logic has been changed to look for the attachment file in the Attachments directory first, then the original location.
Issue: Editing, adding, removing, or pasting Inspection Items was always a template change. There was no way to make small report only changes to Inspection Items.
Solution: New right-click menu on Inspection Items allows inspectors to quickly duplicate inspection items to the template or the report only. Report-only changes are a new way to add one-time inspection items quickly. Report-only changes will not trigger the template save icon.
Report-only items will have an (R) listed after the Inspection Item number to identify quickly. This report-only designation is only in the software and not on the final published report.
You can copy and paste Inspection Items between different sections. The Report-only Inspection Item will share the same comments as the parent item that was copied.
Issue: Inspector had to make the software window smaller every time they opened the software, as it always opened in fullscreen.
Solution: New code is dependent on the setting of the Shortcut “Run” property:
If the “Run” setting is set to “Normal window” (default shortcut setting, or when run from the Start menu or command line), this will restore the window to the same location/size/monitor as when it was last closed. The last setting can be minimized, maximized, or any other size. If the setting is not found (i.e. first time running the new executable or if the registry/settings are wiped), the window will start maximized as it did before. After that, we save the settings when the software is closed, and use the same settings on the next startup
Issue: When copying and pasting an inspection item, component, or S&M the pasted item will be pasted at the bottom of the list and require moving up or down to the desired location.
Solution: When adding a new item, or pasting a copied item, it will be added under the currently selected item at the time of the action.
Issue: To be consistent with the rest of the product, the Section container links on the Components dialog should be enabled/disabled as appropriate.
Solution: We kept the controls for Duplicates on the panel, just moved them to be text ‘links’ at the bottom, and added some descriptive labels to make things clearer. You can also right-click a section to access the same options. New interface:
Issue: Edit Estimates and Edit Lead Sources dialogue windows were not consistent with the rest of the software user interface.
Solution: Updated the buttons to match the rest of the software. New items are added after the currently selected item (or at the end if nothing is selected), instead of always adding at the end. The buttons are only enabled when appropriate (i.e. if nothing is selected, only the Add button should be enabled, or if selecting the first item in the list, the Move Up button should be disabled, etc. Double-clicking on an item will be the same as pressing the Edit button.
Issue: When in tablet mode or on a touchscreen laptop, the long press was not opening menus like a right click would on a mouse or trackpad.
Solution: Updated the software to include functionality for long press menus anywhere a right-click menu is present.
