How to Set Up a Google Business Profile as a Home Inspector (or RV Inspector)

Updated over a month ago

Setting up and verifying your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) for your inspection business as a service area business is key to getting found locally.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set up and verify your Google Business Profile as an inspector:

Step 1: Sign in to Google Business Profile

Step 2: Enter Your Business Name & Primary Category

  • Type your business name as you want it to appear on Google.

Tip: Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your website and marketing materials. Keeping it consistent helps with online visibility.

  • Type and select “Home inspector” as your primary business category (or “RV Inspection Service” if you’re an RV inspector).

  • Click “Next.”
(You can add more categories later, like "Building Inspector" or "Real Estate Consultant.")

Step 4: Choose Your Business Type

  • Select “No” when asked if you want to add a location customers can visit.

Click “Next.”

Step 5: Set Up Your Service Area

  • Add the cities, counties, or zip codes you serve—up to 20 locations.

Tip: While counties work for larger service areas, listing specific towns or cities typically improves local search visibility.

  • Click “Next.”
(You can add or adjust these areas later if needed.)

Step 6: Enter your Business Details

  • Enter your business phone number where customers can reach you.

  • Add your business website URL if you have one.
(Need a website? The HomeGauge web team can hook you up!)

  • Click “Next.”

Step 7: Verify Your Business

  • Google requires verification before your profile goes live. Choose your verification method:

-Postcard (mailed to your business address)
-Phone (if eligible)
-Email (if eligible)
-Video verification (if required)

  • Complete the verification steps and wait for confirmation (postcards take about 5 days).

Disclaimer: We cannot predict the verification method Google will offer your business, as it can vary. Follow the instructions carefully for the option(s) you receive. If you’re having trouble verifying your profile, visit the GBP help center for assistance.

Step 8: Optimize Your Profile

  • Add your business hours (set specific or flexible hours)

  • Include a business description

  • Upload high-quality images (your logo, photos of inspectors, tools, company vehicle, etc.)

  • Add services and products

  • Add Q&As

Step 9: Publish & Manage Your Profile

Once verified, your business will appear in Google Search and Maps.

Keep your profile updated with:

  • New customer reviews (ask happy clients to leave feedback).

  • Posts & updates about promotions, seasonal services, or inspection tips.

  • Any business changes (new service areas, phone numbers, or business hours).

Step 10: Monitor & Improve Your Visibility

  • Check your performance to track customer interactions.

  • Respond to reviews to build credibility.

  • Keep your profile active by posting updates to boost your ranking in local searches.

Your Google Business Profile is now live and ready to help you attract potential customers!
