Inspector Dashboard: Make Report Public

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Making a report public is excellent when you need to have a sample report put on your website or sent to a real estate agent. Anyone can view a public report without logging in with a username and password.

Note: We recommend only following these directions to create sample reports. To learn more about sample reports, See this article: Websites: Create a Sample Inspection.

It is inadvisable to make a practice of making your reports public to deliver them to clients or real estate agents:

  • A public report cannot be tracked

  • CRLs cannot be created from reports viewed from the public link

  • Public reports can be viewed without having an agreement signed, introducing possible risk This makes it essential to weigh the risks of unauthorized access if the report link is shared unintentionally.

Understanding Public vs. Private Reports

Public Reports

  • Accessible to anyone with the direct link.

  • No HomeGauge login is required to view these reports.

  • Ideal for sharing reports with individuals or third-party stakeholders who do not have HomeGauge accounts.

Private Reports

  • Only accessible to users listed on the report who have a HomeGauge account.

  • More secure, as access is controlled through login credentials.

  • Best for safeguarding sensitive or private information.
